District 50
William Rannefeld is a lifelong Texan and a born Austinite. He grew up in the Austin area and the Hill Country, attended Texas State University in San Marcos, and has lived in Texas his entire life. His roots in Central Texas shape his understanding of the people, communities, and challenges facing House District 50.
William has worked in state government at both the Texas Ethics Commission and the Texas Legislative Council, where he gained insight into how government operates, how laws are applied, and the importance of transparency and accountability in public service. His experience helped him see firsthand how policy decisions affect everyday Texans.
In addition to his state government work, William has also served as a federal contractor supporting national security projects. Across both public and private roles, he has focused on responsibility, integrity, and practical problem-solving.
William is running for the Texas House of Representatives to bring thoughtful leadership, real-world experience, and a commitment to listening to the people of House District 50 and working toward solutions that strengthen Texas communities.
Issues I’m fighting for…
-
Invest in College & Workforce Education
Everyone has talents, and everyone can be a productive member of society. We need to make sure every Texan has a real path to reach their full potential.
I went to college at Texas State University in 2007 using scholarships and working part-time.
Today, scholarships and wages have not kept up with the cost of education.
We need to fix that. -
Strong Public Education
The public school system I grew up in was top-notch from kindergarten through high school. We had qualified teachers, functional facilities, and a curriculum based on science, history, and critical thinking.
Today, public education is under attack — with federal efforts to dismantle the Department of Education and state policies that divert funding away from public schools.
REPEAL private school voucher programs.
GIVE teachers a substantial raise.
KEEP public schools open and fully funded. -
Safe & Secure Elections
It’s 2026. Our elections should work like the rest of modern life.
We should have polling locations that get people in and out in minutes, not hours.
Same-day registration so eligible voters aren’t locked out by paperwork.
Election Day should be a state holiday, because not everyone can take time off work.
Real penalties for voter intimidation and election interference.
-
Reliable and Affordable Energy
Require ERCOT to build and maintain a power grid that works when it’s hot or cold. Texas weather is unpredictable — our power grid shouldn’t be.
BAN surge pricing during weather emergencies. Texans should not get punished when private infrastructure fails.
REMOVE the 2021 Abbott-era surcharge on our electric bill. Texans should not be paying a surcharge for 30 years to cover the cost of a failure we didn’t cause. -
Accessible Healthcare for ALL Texans
Every Texan should be able to reach emergency medical care within 30 minutes.
We should not be closing rural hospitals — we should be opening more.
Hospitals must be required to staff appropriately so ER wait times are minutes, not hours.
Doctors and nurses must be allowed to provide evidence-based, lifesaving care without fear of punishment or losing their license.
-
Personal Freedoms Stay Personal
The government should stay out of private medical and personal decisions.
Texans should be free to live their lives without politicians inserting themselves into family matters, healthcare choices, or personal decisions that belong between people and the professionals they trust.
And if the government violates your rights, there should be real consequences. You should be able to bring charges, hold officials accountable, and demand restitution.
-
Increase Funding for Public Safety
Public safety isn’t just about what happens after something goes wrong. It’s about preventing failures before they put people in danger.
The state needs to invest in safe, reliable infrastructure and real emergency preparedness so police, firefighters, and EMS aren’t constantly dealing with preventable disasters.
When systems fail, first responders and families pay the price. Texas should be fixing the systems.Description goes here
-
Reduce Property Taxes
Increase the Homestead Exemption so homeowners see real relief.
Provide direct tax relief to renters, based on rent paid and income, so savings go to people—not corporations.
Texas has about $24 billion in surplus and nearly $25 billion in the Rainy Day Fund. We can lower property taxes for everyday Texans without giving another break to corporations. This is a choice.
